There was some roster juggling to get here, but Buffalo’s quarterback contingent is set. The Bills re-signed veteran QB Matt Cassel Tuesday and once again have the three quarterbacks that battled for the starting job all on the 53-man roster.
Head coach Rex Ryan indicated all along that he wanted to carry three quarterbacks on the active roster for the regular season.
“All three of them played pretty darn good,” said Ryan last week.
Cassel completed better than 83 percent of his passes in the preseason going 13-15 for 83 yards with a passer rating of 89.7.
To make room on the roster for Cassel the Bills released rookie TE Nick O’Leary.
Well Rex said he wanted these 3 guys on the roster, and Rex has got his wish again. After just cutting Cassel a few days prior, the Bills have re-signed Matt Cassel at no doubt a new salary. Gotta love the move if you’re a Bills fan. With a mobile QB like Tyrod Taylor, the risk of injury is always at an all time high. By re-signing Cassel you get to save yourself some space in the cap, and have yourself a steady backup plan. All 3 quarterbacks really showed up during the preseason, so I for one am really excited to have Cassel back. (*Insert people bitching about how we brought back Cassel, but didn’t bring back Freddy Jackson*)
